Sunlit Stream

Sunlit Stream - 30 x 30", acrylic ...

I finished this painting last week. I rather like working on larger paintings (note to self: do this more often). I started this one with black gesso covering the whole canvas, then started painting the rocks on the left, the water and distant rocks, and finally the trees. It's a rather high contrast painting ...

I love your rocks, they have a fluidity, like they are alive! I am gearing up to doing a large painting, I have painted somewhat big in pastels, but not oils. I have a fear of painting large for some reason, I need to take the plunge, it is time.! You make it look easy!

There's a feeling you have to your work that just draws me in instantly! Your palate, the strokes, I just love it. My reaction when I see your work is one of pure joy.

Thanks both of you! I feel pure joy when I'm painting, I'm glad it shows through in the final painting.

As for painting big, I only started it recently. It still feels a bit intimidating before I start, but only until I get going. Just use a bigger brush! And I do try to not pick references that are too complicated, as then I'd start to get bogged down...
