Evening Surf

Evening Surf - 10x10", acrylic ...

I can't wait for fall/winter to arrive! I am feeling a bit of withdrawal from surfing, as there is rarely any surf here in the summer. We live in Sooke, along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and in order for waves to get in here there has to be some decent size storms in the Pacific with enough force to push them in here at the right angle. This doesn't happen much in the summer, but come fall ... (see map below so you get an idea of this.)

The last time I surfed was in early July in Tofino. This is on the open west coast of Vancouver Island so they have surf year-round, although it's usually much smaller in the summer. The painting above is a scene from there.

I'm looking forward to the winter surf season!

Lost in the Moment

Lost in the Moment, 18x24" - acrylic ...

Finished this one last week. A few years ago I was in the Queen Charlottes (now Haida Qwaii). It was an overcast morning, but just a little opening in the clouds allowed the sun to light up these trees. It was so beautiful! I have painted this scene before, but I wanted to revisit it and also paint it in a larger format.

Chica

Chica - 16x16", acrylic ... SOLD

Chica is an English Cocker Spaniel and is the cutest little dog. I think she's about a year old now. Chica belongs to the owners of Bark, Bath & Beyond - a great doggie boutique store and groomer in the Oak Bay area of Victoria. Chica is always in the store. She is absolutely adorable and everyone and just loves her...

I painted her on a textured canvas, with a red underpainting. The fur on her ears was a bit tricky, but I'm quite happy with the finished painting.

It's been a while ...

We cycled the Galloping Goose trail
from Victoria all the way to Sooke...

I know, it's been a while! I haven't posted anything yet this month. I didn't paint for a few weeks, as we had some friends and then family come to visit. We had some fantastic weather, along with a bit of a heat wave, which made the visits wonderful as we could spend all our time outside! Here are some photos of our recent activities ...

Caught a 28lb Spring (and 7 sockeye salmon too!)

But I do have a few more pet portrait commissions to work on, as well as a few personal paintings I want to get done. And I just finished a portrait of a gorgeous little black and white English Cocker Spaniel - Chica. I haven't yet taken a photo of it, as my main camera has finally called it quits - bummer! I have two little point-and-shoot cameras that don't really take great photos of my paintings, but they will have to do. I'll post it soon.
